Mary at Rowan Croft in Killingworth.

Mary recently visited Rowan Croft, an extra care development in Killingworth, specifically for people aged 55 and over. It was developed by Housing 21, in partnership with North Tyneside Council and the Homes and Communities Agency.

Mary was advised that there is a full time court manager, communal lounge, restaurant, hairdressing salon and guest suite. Care and support services are on site 24 hours a day and are tailored to support individual needs. She was delighted to hear from residents how happy they are to live there.

Mary says "This development is such a safe, happy, and vibrant place for older people to live. There is peace of mind for the residents as the care services operate around the clock. The apartments are self contained, therefore, the residents can live independently, however, there are plenty of communal areas which means there is always the opportunity to find someone to chat to. It is, in my view, an excellent example of the way forward for older people's care and housing".
