Mary backing Balfour Beatty Worksmart
North Tyneside is home to a crucial nerve centre of Balfour Beatty, one of the world's largest infrastructure companies whose operations span the world.
The global firm's WorkSmart office in North Tyneside employs 233 people and processes the company's payments in the UK.
The recently launched branch gave a guided tour to local MP Mary Glindon who met staff and managers and saw the operation at first hand.
Mary Glindon commented: "My job is to help promote the interests of big employers such as WorkSmart. I admire their exemplary and long-term pledge to grow their business which benefits the local community. I was also pleased to learn about their accountancy apprenticeship scheme. I wish them well. North Tyneside should nurture its local talent in a very important profession."
Ian Dawson, Operations Director at Balfour Beatty WorkSmart commented, "In only 18 months, we have now created over 230 new jobs, opened the door to six local apprenticeships, and all in a facility built to the highest 'best practice' standards of sustainable design. The visit from Mary Glindon, MP, was also a great opportunity to show off our diverse pool of talent, and electric vehicle trials - further proof of our commitment to doing business sustainably in the North East."
